I have always had a bit of a purse obsession. Mixing my love for textiles and leather, the handbag is my favorite collectible accessory, besides jewelry of course! Over the years I have admired my friend David's hand tooled purses, so it was an easy fit to add his collection to our website.
David and my friendship has grown over the years, based on a mutual love of art, celebrating life, and tequila. His designs inspire me, from his big installations to his smallest clutches, he has an amazing eye for detail.
David was born in a small town in Jalisco, but moved to the big city Guadalajara when he was in high school. He has remained there ever since. He bought his house 30 years ago in a tree lined neighborhood and created an urban oasis there. He also built his workshop, filled with furniture, dried gourds, raw wood, baskets of every size, and his leather bag collection.
Next he opened his restaurant, Casa Luna, in the heart of Tlaquepaque. It is a design masterpiece. The restaurant is also home to his flagship store, Origenes by David Luna. Entering the space you are transported to another realm, a permanent golden hour, an enchanted garden from inside his mind.
He is hired by 5 star boutique hotels and restaurants all over Mexico to create unique installations using natural materials and textures. I have accompanied him to meet several different artisans who create his designs, from illumination to ceramics, all of whom he has been working with for over 30 years. He has traveled all over the world, and usually brings back treasures from his travels.
It is a pleasure to be able to offer his designs on our website! Each bag is made one at a time by master craftsmen. Together we are supporting artisans continuing their traditional work in Mexico.
I recently purchased a purse from David Luna’s Sayulita store. I fell in love with his bags, his story and now I’m semi obsessed. My next visit to Puerto Vallarta will include a trip to his shop and the restaurant! Thanks for sharing.
